Safety

Crisis & safety.

GeistHaus is a journaling and reflection companion. It is not therapy, not a crisis service, and not a substitute for professional care or a human who knows you. It cannot diagnose anything, and it cannot help in an emergency.

If you need help now

If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself or someone else, please reach out to real human help right away:

  • Call or text 988 — the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (free, confidential, available 24/7).
  • Chat at 988lifeline.org.
  • Call 911 if you are in immediate danger.

How our crisis protocol works

Every message you send is screened for signs of a safety concern — thoughts of suicide or self-harm, intent to harm someone else, abuse, or immediate danger. When the screen detects one, GeistHaus stops its ordinary reflective replies for that conversation, shows the crisis resources above, and encourages you toward real human support. It does not assess, diagnose, or counsel you through a crisis; its only job in that moment is to point you to people who can help.

What we don't do

GeistHaus does not provide emergency services and cannot contact anyone on your behalf. It is an AI — a computer program, not a human being — and it is not staffed by clinicians. For anything urgent, use the resources above.
