Patterns

Nobody searches for “selfobject transference.” People search for why they can’t say no, why one sentence from a manager ruins a weekend, why they keep ending up with the same person in a different body. These pages start there, with the thing you would actually say to a friend, and follow it into the ideas the rest of the site explains in full. Each one lays out several possibilities, not one answer, because the same behavior can come from very different places and the only person who can tell which is you.

Everything here describes patterns that show up across many people. None of it is a diagnosis of you, and none of it is therapy. If something on these pages lands hard, that is worth paying attention to, and the safety page says where to take it if it is heavier than reflection can hold.

Pages in This Section

Why can’t I say no?
Saying yes to things you don’t want, resenting it, and doing it again. What the yes is protecting, and the times you already said no.
Why does criticism wreck me for days?
One comment, and the whole self goes down with it. Shame, what self-worth rests on, and how the picture rebuilds.
Why do I apologize for everything?
“Sorry” before every sentence, for things that are not yours. What the apology is bracing for, and whom it was learned from.
Why do I keep dating the same person?
Different names, same ending. The scene that gets recast, the role you keep taking, and why familiar beats good.

How to Read These

Each page has the same shape. What it looks like from the inside. What might be going on, as several possibilities. The exceptions, because the time you did it differently tells you more than the hundred times you didn’t. Where the thread leads on this site. And a note on how Geist listens for it. The pages are short on purpose; the depth is one link away.

If your pattern is not here yet, it probably still is, under another name. The glossary is the fastest way in, and the twelve-week composite shows what it looks like to follow one pattern over months.
