The above article mentions Snohomish County, over 100 miles south of Vancouver, BC, so it was a bit confusing to me. It seems most of the filming was done in British Columbia, not Washington state. Enjoyed the film as well as the book. Thank you.

Where was Apex filmed? The Wandarra National Park in Australia
AustraliaFilming LocationsMoviesNetflixNorway
Posted by Set in the fictional Wandarra National Park, Apex was filmed on location in Norway, California, and New South Wales, Australia.

Wandarra National Park

Charlize Theron stars as Sasha, who ventures into a remote park deep in the Australian outback, where survival becomes a high-stakes game of instinct and deception.

Welcome to Wandarra and our spoiler-free guide to all the filming locations of Apex. You’ll find the locations listed in order of their first appearance.

Apex locations Apex location
The movie opens with a climbing scene that was filmed on location at the real Troll Wall, Europe’s tallest vertical rock face, rising 1,100 meters (3,609 feet).

Also known as Trollveggen, this imposing landmark rises dramatically above Norway’s Romsdalen Valley.

Charlize Theron learned rock climbing from scratch with an expert, starting with no prior experience, to perform most of her own stunts on real cliffs—including barefoot sequences.

Apex in Australia: The Wandarra National Park Lost City North Lookout
The first camping spot in Australia was filmed at the Lost City North Lookout, a scenic viewpoint in the Gardens of Stone State Conservation Area, just a few kilometres north of Lithgow.

The lookout sits above the pagoda-like sandstone ‘Lost City’ formations, offering expansive views over the rocky landscape and Marrangaroo Creek.

Apex Australia
We’re not 100% sure about this location, but the ranger’s station in the fictional Wandarra National Park looks like the Rangers Headquarters building at Waratah Park in Duffys Forest, north of Sydney.

This building served as the central set for the iconic TV series Skippy the Bush Kangaroo (1967–69).

On the other hand, one of our readers commented that this is actually the National Parks office for the Glenbrook area in Blue Mountains National Park, but the exterior of the building doesn’t look like this.

The store is the post office next to the Central Garage service station in Bowning, a small historic village in NSW’s Southern Tablelands, about 75 km (47 miles) northeast of Canberra.

When Sasha asks for directions to the Grand Isle Narrows canyon, the map shows the Kedumba Valley, a scenic area in Blue Mountains National Park (NSW), about 100 km (62 miles) west of Sydney.

Wandarra National Park Australia
The scene with Sasha whitewater kayaking was filmed at the Ginninderra Falls, a gorge on Ginninderra Creek near the NSW/ACT border, close to Canberra.

Once a popular public site with trails, open between 1979 and 2004, the park is now privately owned and closed to the public, amid development proposals and conservation efforts.

Apex kayaking scene
As local outlets reported, additional water scenes were filmed around The Needles along the Woronora River.

This swimming spot is located between Engadine and Barden Ridge in Sydney’s south, near Royal National Park.

The crew trained at the Penrith Whitewater Stadium, a world-class artificial whitewater course built for the 2000 Sydney Olympics to host canoe and kayak slalom events.

Wolgan View Dry Canyon
According to one of our readers, the narrow slot canyon that Sasha climbs is Dry Canyon (also known as Wolgan View Canyon), located in Wollemi National Park, a short drive from Lithgow in the Blue Mountains region.

The canyon lies near the Glow Worm Tunnel area and makes an excellent, family-friendly addition to a visit to the tunnel.

Apex Canyon
The Grand Canyon in the Blue Mountains, near Blackheath, is also featured in several scenes.

It’s a stunning 6.3 km (4 miles) loop hike through a narrow sandstone gorge, with lush rainforest, waterfalls, creek crossings, and dramatic cliffs.

Blue Mountains Apex
After a rough dip that definitely wasn’t in the travel brochure, the pair emerge at Glenbrook Gorge in Blue Mountains National Park.

There are a few popular, family-friendly swimming holes nearby, such as the Jellybean Pool, but the waterfall in the background was added via CGI.

Reached by a short, easy track with calm waters, it’s a great spot for picnics and a refreshing dip, if you’re not currently dealing with a situation.

The climbing sequence was filmed on the towering sandstone cliffs around the Glenbrook Gorge river.

The production was based at Disney Studios in Sydney, where some of the stunt scenes were filmed.

I love Australia and have made several trips to QLD, NSW, and Hinchinbrook Island as a younger man. I really enjoyed Apex. However, I loved all the different locations' scenery every bit as well. OZ and the people I found friendly and with a great sense of humor. Some of my favorite memories of my 76 years right there with my hikes in the Grand Canyon in Arizona.

The very first camping spot shown in the movie is the Lost City North lookout just north of Lithgow, NSW. The scene where the heroine stems up a narrow slot canyon is Dry Canyon, about 20 km further north, along the Glow Worm Tunnel road. Beautiful terrain with too many canyons and trails to count.

Thank you! I was confused as to why they went to a hotel, and it was The Hermitage, which I only associated with Nashville. I had no idea which show was filmed there.

They also used Peachtree Grill in Nashville.

Why was the show filmed in Alexandria, VA, and Nashville, Tennessee, when three of the four murders in her first book, Postmortem, happened in Richmond, VA? The real killer was caught, tried, and convicted in Richmond. As a woman who lived in Richmond, the first episode of Scarpetta was more confusing than anything. I hope it gets better, but I was expecting it to be more accurate to the real serial killer case we had.

They are currently filming behind my home in Donelson, Tennessee. Literally tonight, as I am writing this. My home sits just feet away from Percy Priest Lake. It's a nighttime scene, and everything is lit up.

Opened in 1912, it closed in the 1930s and spent decades as a warehouse and bazaar.

The establishment was then meticulously restored beginning in 2008 and reopened in 2012, faithfully reviving the original 1912 décor, paintings, and gold-leaf plasterwork.

Although the establishing shot shows the exterior of Gare de l'Est in Paris, the train station scenes were filmed at the Cupola of the Casino de la Exposición in Seville, the grand central dome of a historic 1929 Neobaroque building created for the Ibero-American Exhibition.

Originally designed as a “teatro‑casino” venue for shows and entertainment, it now forms part of a major cultural and event space next to María Luisa Park, recently restored to its original brightness.

Where Was Survivor Filmed? The island and the exact locations in Fiji
CBSFijiFilming LocationsReality TV Shows
Posted by Now returning for its 50th edition, Survivor was filmed on several small islands in Fiji.

Survivor Island

In this edition, called Hands of the Fans, viewers can vote on twists and elements via online polls.

Survivor 50 features 24 returning contestants, all veterans from the previous 49 seasons of the CBS reality show, marking a milestone "all-returnees" cast.

Here is our spoiler-free guide to all the filming locations of Survivor 50. You'll find the locations in order of first appearance.

The Survivor Island Location Survivor 50 Island
In the first episode, "Epic Party," the cast and crew are on a boat with a very special location as a backdrop... The Cast Away movie island!

As in the 2000 classic starring Tom Hanks, Monuriki Island is a rocky, uninhabited islet, part of the Mamanuca archipelago, with plenty of coconuts, crabs, and exotic green-crested iguanas.
(You can open all the locations on Google Maps by clicking on the links below in the captions ↴)

Jeff Probst on Monuriki Island
In this shot, host Jeff Probst is on top of Monuriki Island. However, it is not recommended to climb to the hilltop from the beach, as there is no path and it's quite dangerous.

Maybe you remember the famous Cast Away scene, with Hanks scaling the rocky peak. But the sequence was filmed at a studio in Los Angeles, with CGI added in post-production, so we assume that Probst was placed there via aerial transport.

Where Was Survivor Filmed
The white sand triangular beach where the contestants disembark, where several games take place, was filmed on the tiny, uninhabited Yadua Island, positioned roughly 25 miles north of the Mamanuca Islands group.

This spectacular private location was also recently featured in Peacock's Love Island Season 7.

Image courtesy of CBS - Map

Vatu Tribe island
The Vatu Tribe island is also Monuriki Island, but from the opposite side of the island where the movie was filmed (the same spot where tours to the "Tom Hanks Island" land).

Tours cost around $100 to $140, depending on what is included and where you start out.
Image courtesy of CBS - Map

Cila Tribe island
Kalo and Cila share the same island, Tavua, which has been featured in previous editions of Survivor.

Separated by a dense tropical jungle, Kalo occupies the southeastern shore, whilst Cila is on the northeastern beach.

Nestled amid coral reefs and crystal-clear waters, this idyllic spots are ideal for snorkeling or lounging on its petite white-sand beaches.
Image courtesy of CBS - Maps: Kalo Tribe Camp / Cila Tribe Camp

Survivor show location
The Survivor challenges were filmed on Mana Island, which is quite flat and hosts an airport and a private resort.

This almost one mile-long tropical gem features three white-sand beaches and appeared recently in the second season of Netflix's Beast Games.

You can still see the sets in the satellite images on Google Maps.
Image courtesy of CBS - Map

Tribal Council location
The pagoda-style set for the Tribal Council was also built here, in a round jungle clearing near the sea.

Survivor Fiji
The day four game in the first episode was filmed in another location, Monu, an uninhabited scenic island near Monuriki, from the side facing the green hills of Yanuya Island.

Many Mamanuca Islands have remained traditionally uninhabited because of the intense sun and lack of fresh water, but they are now being eyed for eco-luxury resorts thanks to their sensational ocean views and reefs.

I was thrilled to hear that 56 Days was filmed in Boston, where I had spent some 25 years, but then I didn’t and couldn’t recognize any of the locations in the series.

After the first show, I looked up, "Where was 56 Days filmed" and saw that most of it was shot in Montréal, where I’ve been living since 2008. I did recognize the Rialto Theatre and Queen Anne building, just 10 minutes down the street from my apartment.

I’ve only watched one episode, but it’s great—and the actors are great!

2- Anonymous - Mar 7, 2026, 3:09 PM
Why couldn't they just film it in Boston?

3- Anonymous - Mar 11, 2026, 7:24 AM
I'm pretty sure that the times Ciara is in the subway cars, those are NYC city subway cars.

The location in episode 8 where she is picked up in a blue truck, is that location Ravensdale County, Louth?

Pretty sure the scene in the queue outside the 'RTE Studio' was in fact outside the Bord Gais theatre, with the Marker Hotel behind it. I work in the area so it seems very likely. Love the write up anyway - it's a cracking show!

Thank you, this is a lovely show. The confusion about locations where the show was taking place is difficult for those of us in the US. I recognize Belfast and Donegal names from life. You did such a thorough job with all the information and photos, it helps to enjoy the show.
