the great paywall

The web is changing. (Nobody denies that, of course.) The biggest changes revolve around money. (And that, as well, is not exactly surprising.) The impetus of these changes is a shift in perspective by major web companies and media sources—a perspective that is not yet shared by their audiences.

Still unfinished, still shareable

A little while back (six months ago) I wrote about how I made a random page featuring my dad’s hats and how I want to make more evergreen content and share more photos and visual things here. In Praise of Links

Hyperlinks deserve more recognition in light of all the ways their value has been sidelined and denied. From deliberate corporate link suppression to link-shy site cultures on social media to the dysfunctional state of deteriorating search engines, the web has changed a lot over the years since the days of early link-based web logs, and a familiarity with the importance of links can no longer be taken for granted. It needs to be expressly advocated. To that end, I present a link compilation in praise of links.
