There have been three eras of general computing… the fourth remains to be written. A highly-compressed overview of the history of general computing The first era of general computing was the mainframe era and it was centralised. The second, the personal computing (PC 1.0) era, was decentralised. The third is the Web era (let’s call it Mainframe 2.0). And it is, once again, centralised. Today, we find ourselves at the end of the Mainframe 2.

Emulated Woz Machine

Two years ago in 2014 I put together a half complete barely functioning emulator for the Apple 1. I called this project Emulated Woz Machine, an ode to the brilliant Steve Wozniak. I found some new energy to continue working on this project. To kick it off I wrote a small patch and also started filing issues for things that need to happen to turn this project into something bigger than just a Christmas break hack.

EWM Update: Frogger & Karateka

Things are moving fast now. Monochrome Hi-Res support. The horizontal line in the Frogger screen is probably a typo in the table that I have to list the base addresses of lines of the HGR pages. This is how I remember the Apple ][+ - everything in monochrome. Except that we had a Monitor ///, which was green. So I’ll have to make some options for monochrome color selection I think.

Electronic Business Card Puzzle

Feeling inspired after seeing some electronic business cards creations, I tried a few years ago to make mini variant of my own. It’s a neat form factor to experiment and demo some ideas. Built around an ATtiny85 microcontroller, this was my first PCB design. The board is a sort-of puzzle, incorporating elements from different interests like (retro)computing, electronics and music.
