new premade template

new premade template today; link is to the demopage. it's a little boring, but hopefully in a good way? it's hard to bear in mind when i make these that "boring" is a good thing bc the point is for somebody to be able to use it and customize it…

plus publicdomaintreasures has a guestbook now, i added more backgrounds to the bgs page, and i fixed broken links on the resources page.

i'll be adding another kinda-boring premade after i do some housekeeping with the foryou section's layout because it could use a refresh. also i really need to figure out something for the premades page because neocities's code editor is starting to lag bc of how many lines of code it has. annoying!! i think it's really useful to have the textareas right there on the page. i have a couple pages that lag like this when i edit them, even though they're fine on my computer.

new links added; plus a picture of a victorian turnip

added somewhere around 50 links to my resources page. also if you didn't notice already, the home page is back to the door and spinner layout; my dead cat page is now at this location, accessible via the home page by clicking on the picture of my cat that i added.

in slow progress at the moment: neopets section, additional BL recs (i'm going to add a "technically not BL" section so i can recommend karaoke iko (plus a couple other things)). i think i have more buttons saved to add to my button wall and maybe some backgrounds for the backgrounds section, i need to check. plus a links page rework that's in progress but im not happy with it at all so that's on the backburner.

i have a lot of new public domain stuff saved but a lot of it needs cropping/small edits bc it's from magazines.

the other day i was reading a volume of the strand from 1893 and well for one thing it had a photo of a turnip that looks kinda like an old woman. but for another thing it had this section for people who got an award from the royal humane society, which primarily gave (gives??) awards to people who save people from drowning, and one of the recipients is bram stoker! author of dracula! before he wrote dracula.

weird to run into that in the wild. not a very interesting story, and actually kind of depressing, but it was interesting to see it at least.

they also included this dog, who i'm not sure was actually awarded a medal but did help save some guys from drowning.

"the collar he is wearing was presented by the brother of the captain who, unfortunately, was drowned; and on the plate are engraved these words: Presented to Prince for his gallant behaviour, October 22nd, 1892, by J. J. W."

if you're interested in that sort of thing, here is the volume i was looking at. there's a lot of racist short stories in it with racist illustrations though so i wouldn't recommend it if that sort of thing is upsetting to look at for you. one of the reasons i liked running publicdomaintreasures is i want to give people the opportunity to enjoy things like photos of heroic victorian dogs and funny ads and such without having to sift through all the racial caricatures. in website form its a little different though. for an archive for someone to peruse it seems pointless to include this sort of little bit that isn't useful in any capacity. its a very different sort of thing from a gimmick blog on cohost. idk. i miss having people i could show this stuff to in a casual "look at this thing i found!" way who enjoyed seeing it and going "haha, neat!". websites and blogs arent set up for that type of interaction at all.

anyways here's that turnip i promised.

agony!

hi. my website was down for a bit because i wanted to destroy something. but it's back now with a new "my cat died" themed home page. because my cat died.

it's weird web october again

hello, it has been a bit. i am participating in weird web october again; my goal is to do more than i did last year, which shouldn't be too hard because i didn't end up doing that much last year (11 days out of 31). i'll be switching the homepage of the site to halloween decor soon i think. that's all for now.

various updates

the big update is that i've moved my public domain picture hoard to its own neocities site! publicdomaintreasures.neocities.org. the contents are the same but less crunchy, as they've got more storage space and can be higher-resolution. this also frees up a lot of space on my regular site, which is nice!

other smaller updates: added 2 bl recs , some number of resource links, 1 web art, removed blog + collages (temporarily? idk, i'm going through a phase), adjusted sitemap. small stuff.

i have plans for things to do but haven't been in the mood to do them. my garden is only growing marigolds, even though i planted carrots and strawberries and black eyed susans and scallions and larkspur. i hope the end of august is kind to you.

resources page update

added and removed links on my resources page; shrunk the internet/webmastery section a lot, since the vast majority of the links were already on the 32-bit cafe resources masterlist, kept some that i personally find useful. outside of that, majority of new links are in the somewhat-new "justice" section, but there's some added in every category i think. still mulling over improvements to my other links page.

i've also updated my plant ID site for the first time in three years, filling in the twelve 404 pages - black raspberry, carpetweed, mountain laurel, spotted spurge, prostrate vervain, wild grape, creeping bellflower, jewelweed, orange daylily, red clover, red oak, and self-heal!

new project finished!

hello! i've been toiling away at a project, which is finally presentable! it's a gallery of cool cover art from textbooks. it's divvied up into rooms with about 4-10 pieces per room, but there's around 450ish in total. this took a while to put together, as i am sure you can imagine!

this project is hosted on infinityfree, since my neocities is running out of storage space… this means i had to use filezilla to upload files to something for the first time. exciting stuff! i could have done a php guestbook, but i still don't know what php is or how it works even a little bit, so it's good old ayano's googlesheets widget instead haha.

i hope you enjoy exploring the collection! and that nothing is broken………… sweats………..

i made a webring!

whoa! a webring! this webring is called the toybox ring and it's for sites that have web toys. i am hoping to have a directory of sites with dressup games and other little fun activities… join it, if you want to!

semi-related, i've been browsing some doll sites and missing dolling; i was so into it as a kid! (xandorra was my favorite; her website is still up but mostly broken, so here's a wayback link. i wonder what she's up to now?) maybe i should get into it again… since i don't do it atm i can't make a doll webring, but there really ought to be one.

i also recently redesigned the borders page so it's a bit easier to use, and i added a couple new ones and a couple new backgrounds to the bg hoard.

angelic pretty update

yoohoo! i added 82 angelic pretty tile backgrounds to the backgrounds page :) they've got their own ~special collection~ so you can look at them specifically if you want to.

the rest of the AP bgs i have saved are meant to be anchored to the bottom and repeated horizontally, so they're all very tall - i'm not sure whether i'm going to trim them to just have the tiling patterns or keep them as-is. prooobably the latter, although i need to edit them a bit anyway to compress them somewhat. i'm approaching my free storage limit on neocities… honestly one gigabyte goes way further than i thought it would, i have a LOT of images on here.

new premade layouts

the 32-bit cafe tea party has concluded and the layouts are all up! i have mirrored my two entries on my premade layouts page, and there's a bonus third one which i almost submitted but didn't because it didn't reeeeeally fit the theme ("tea and coffee"). i'm very proud of them! i think they came out very nice.

the other day i found the folder on angelic pretty's website where they store their website backgrounds! no milky planet, sadly, but lots of other prints! i need to do some editing and compressing and make a subpage i think, and pare down to just my favorites since there's like 450 and that's A Bit Much, but i'm excited to add them to the tile background hoard at some point! hopefully next week.

new good shirts

finally went through my stash and edited 30!! new pngs of high-quality very human-generated real good t-shirt graphics! some new personal favorites in this group, so i'm glad i finally got them up. i may retool the gallery so pictures can be opened in a box and browsed with arrow keys soon, as the current setup is a bit annoying to me personally, but for now it's staying as-is.

…just discovered another couple of graphics that have been languishing. i'll do those later, i don't feel like it now………………

border images!

yoo hoo! the clipart frames page has gotten a bit of an update! i used the mdn border-image generator to border-image-ify a bunch of the clipart frames i had on there. conveniently copy-pasteable. made a few css tweaks to the page as well!

projects page makeover

i finished redesigning my projects page! i think it feels more engaging now; previously it was just a big list, which was bugging me as it felt too bland. it's not as much of an extreme makeover as the complete remodel i did for the public domain image gallery, though.

two things are missing - my itch bundle game reviews and my BL recs page are going to be linked in the "fandom" section since i think that makes a bit more sense than "projects" (maybe i will change my mind though, who knows!). the fandom section is currently down for construction; i'll be doing a lot of work on that now that i've finished this 'projects' rework :)

public domain gallery remodel!

hey! i completely overhauled the public domain image gallery; it's very jazzed up now, and also only one page. in addition to giving it a more fun look, i've also added a "pic of the day" page.

i miss posting on publicdomaintreasures on cohost; it was nice to have a way of showing people the stuff i thought was fun or cool or interesting in a more individual way than just gesturing at a huge pile. it seemed like other people liked it too. the pic of the day will at least be an opportunity to highlight and share individual pictures, even if it's still not the same.

another week of Things

hello! i've done another week of things every single day. since they're small i think i'm happier doing an rss update about it once a week than every time i post them. maybe i will change my mind about that, but for now that's how it is! i prefer to just update the rss feed when it's something noteworthy, rather than every time i do anything on the site.

i realized today that it has been a bit more than a year since i started working on the site in earnest, so i may make a blog post about that? not sure. at any rate i'm planning to do some construction around the site, try to tackle some stuff i've been putting off doing for a long while, and update some sections that haven't been updated in a bit. i hope you have a nice day.

https://xixxii.neocities.org/projects/makeitwork/
new page: play with toys

hello! i've got a new thing for you to play with, if you like. a playing-with-toys page, ft. 75ish sylvanian families figures and 50 character prompt thingies. click to drag the toys and notes around the page. the character notes have input fields where you can type names for the toys!

it's pretty cool i think. have fun!

https://xixxii.neocities.org/gooftown/playwithtoys
fun blog post (and more)

hello! i've made a fun little post on my blog. i don't generally update my rss feed for blog posts, but this one is cool.

i've also made a few updates around the site; new shirts in roboshirts, a whole mess of pinback buttons on the collections page, snow on the homepage, and a new and improved evil portal experience!

the new portal is four portals, each with an array of randomized links! one portal will take you to a random page on my website, one will take you to a random interesting website, one will take you to a random random website, and the other will take you to a random directory website!

new page & small updates!

a few things! biggest thing: the 32-bit cafe's new years event is over; here's my entry on the candles/"light in darkness" theme.

i wanted to have more variety in placement and rotation angle on the "candles", but i think it still turned out pretty nice! although since almost every other person who participated did a blog post i feel like i had a bit of a "babadook at the adults drinking wine party" vibe… oops. oh, well!

smaller thing one: an update to the collections page - added a couple things, such as a sudoku and a crossword iframe! smaller thing two: the homepage navigation now has iframes instead of images. it's much more magical now that you can see and hear the rain from my personal section, i think!

another new premade layout + 2 small updates

i finished up that gradient-centric 2000s-style layout! check it out; i think it's very fun. i'm especially proud of the inset marquee, it's a fun little bit of styling in my humble opinion. i went to the extra effort of editing some icons just for this, which i'm sure absolutely no one cares about besides me haha. there's hardly ever any good reason to use an inset box-shadow, but there's two in this layout! it's good for a very specific kind of skeumorphismish look which modern websites don't do and webcore websites ALSO don't do, lol.

i've also fixed the css on my tiled backgrounds page a bit so it's more responsive, and i went through a bunch of the particularly eye-searing backgrounds and adjusted their colors to make them less saturated/more unified - nothing super obvious i think, but still time-consuming!

i also tidied up and imported my cohost post about goodwill frogs to my blog. so if you want to look at some good (and also bad) frogs, you can check that out.

new premade layout

ahoy! i've added a new layout to my premades. this one is 2020s style! it's called quopyright. this is i think The stereotypical website design of the current moment, so while it's not especially useful it was still fun and interesting to me to make.

i'm finishing up the commenting and organizing on my second 00s-style template, but it's taking a while so that won't be done until tomorrow i think.
