Life & Site Updates

Hiya! Been a bit. We're gearing up for work launch for the title I've been working on and that's hyper exciting but has left me with not-much time to hammer on personal things.

My crusade to decentralize my online life feels like its hit another phase now! With a new updated domain, I've unlocked a lot of different potentials, including selfhosting services. Starting with CardDAV to selfhost my calendar and contacts (Something I very very heavily use) - I'm likely pushing my home server a bit more than I initially did. Gotta test the waters somehow, right? Web email hosting is a lot more complex so I'm currently researching that before setting anything up (and/or messing it up.)

Additionally I've been continuing to research and learn more about the AT Protocol! After experiencing tools like Pinksky (Instagram alternative on ATProto) and Skylight (Tiktok alternative on ATProto) - I'm pretty convinced that there is a ton of value for things that ride on and use the Protocol. Been thinking a lot about how democratized protocols are the safest way to insulate against the wanton devouring of emergent technologies by the ever-hungry beast of Capitalism. While the fedeverse was designed to be this, I believe personally that it pushed the needle way too far in another direction. But this is probably a topic for a blog post down the road.

Sitewise, I've added some new pages under My Media that encompass my interests and thoughts behind them. Hopefully over the next few weeks I can get some bandwidth to actually implement things, but the TCG Decks page is a good marker of what this is likely going to look like in the near-future. I'm also beginning work on an Ask Box for anonymous submitted questions and a guestbook solution. I want to limit the out-of-the-box solutions I use on the site and actually build my own stuff so this is likely going to be the first step into this after completing the Blog.

Thanks for checking in! If this hits your feeds, I've linked this update to the most recent blog post where I talk about the game dev project at work I'm currently working on and should be able to talk a bit more about fairly soon! Stay tuned, and - most importantly - stay safe.
