I Like Watching People Play Old Point-N-Click Adventure Games But I Hate Playing Them

Title says it all. It's some of my favorite second monitor content really. Just putting on a random playthrough of Gabriel Knight, Phantasmagoria, Space Quest etc. I've tried playing them myself and I don't have the patience for them but watching them is just...nice.

I'm especially fond of the full motion video games. They're such a nice little relic of the past.

Before landing the lead role in Assassin's Creed: Black Flag, star Matt Ryan actually thought he was auditioning for a pirate TV show

In an interview with PC Gamer, Ryan said he ended up loving the experience of acting for a game—even though when he auditioned for the role, it was actually masquerading as a show to keep the Assassin's Creed sequel a secret.

"It was pitched to me via my agent as a pirate TV show," he remembered. "Amy Hubbard, a great casting director in the UK, got me into the room, and then they liked me. They asked me for a callback, and then they leveled with me. They were like, listen: this is a videogame. They said it was an Assassin's Creed, and I'd played the first one, so I was like 'great, that's a cool game.' But I didn't think it was mocap—so when it was mocap, I was over the moon. I get to be the character, in the body, you know?"

I tried Abe's Oddyssey Exodus when I was 9. I just couldn't, man. I absolutely sucked at it.

Tried it again over the years, couldn't get the interest going. Played today again, and it's just a wonderful puzzle, dark, gory machine.

Any examples of your own?

I was looking for a Gundam strategy game, but they all seem to be auto-play. Just sit and observe and click on the shiny things after you watch the game happen. That's not really my thing. Tried a few other strat games, seemed similar

I feel out of my depth here in the mobile gaming world, so any help is appreciated. Doesn't have to be a strat game, puzzle games are fun, or something else entirely. Just looking for something engaging, interactive, and doesn't have ads every 30secs

What weird/bad game mechanics happily never got picked up again?

I recently booted up the old PS3 to play Assassin's Creed III, and found out, that if you don't skin every animal you kill, the game treats it the same as if you killed a civilian, saying that "Connor skinned every animal he killed. This behavior will lead to unsynchronization".

Good mechanic for immersion, but very bad when every wolf pack is spamming QTE's and eat half your health bar per fail 🤷

Any other awful mechanics that happily died with their game?

What game made you realize way later that it was actually amazing?

There have been a few games I either ignored, dropped early, or just didn’t think much about at first and then much later I ended up realizing they were way better than I gave them credit for. Sometimes it’s because I played them at the wrong time sometimes it just took longer for the game to click and sometimes I only appreciated what it was doing after trying a lot of other games.

For me one of the biggest examples was Days Gone. It took me longer than it should have to really appreciate how good it was, but once it clicked it became one of those games I looked back on way more highly than I expected.

What game was like that for you?

'LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight' - Review Thread

Game Title: LEGO BATMAN: LEGACY OF THE DARK KNIGHT

Platforms:

  • PlayStation 5 (May 29, 2026)
  • XBOX Series X | S (May 29, 2026)
  • PC (May 29, 2026)
  • Nintendo Switch 2 (TBD)

Trailers:

Developer: TT Games, Traveller's Tales

Reviews aggregates:

OpenCritic: 85 Average - 100% Critics Recommend Metacritic: 84 / 100

Some Reviews (updating):

GAMINGbible - Kate Harrold - 10 / 10

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight deserves to stand proud as one of the best games of 2026 and within LEGO and Batman’s history.

DualShockers - Ethan Krieger - 9 / 10.0

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is extremely ambitious in scope compared to previous LEGO/mega-IP combos, and it succeeds tremendously in nearly everything it has set out to accomplish. The result is a version of Gotham that is a blast to explore, and is also stuffed to the brim with fun activities to complete long after the credits roll on the main story. The narrative plays it a little safe, but also functions as a Greatest Hits compilation of some of the Caped Crusader's best adventures spun out and connected together in highly enjoyable ways. If you love LEGO, Batman, or simply having a good time with a video game, this is a very strong and easy recommendation.

Gaming Boulevard - Lander Van der Biest - 9 / 10.0

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight brings the spirit of the Arkham games into the LEGO universe in a way that clicks. Gotham is a joy to explore, the combat feels great, and the humor keeps the darker Batman lore light without losing its charm. The lack of online co-op is a shame, but this is easily one of the strongest LEGO games in years.

CoverGeek - Kieron Verbrugge - 9 / 10

Legacy of the Dark Knight delivers TT Games' most ambitious, cohesive and authored LEGO title by cutting the content bloat and filtering it all through the lens of Rocksteady's Batman Arkham games. It's an adventure steeped in nostalgia but packed with plenty of open-world fun, fantastic level designs and set pieces, and brilliant humour.

Xbox Achievements - Richard Walker - 85%

Click it all into place and LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight effortlessly emerges as not just one of the best LEGO Batman titles TT has mustered, but one of the best LEGO games of all time, full stop. That it's massively indebted to Batman: Arkham Knight matters not one jot when the resulting game is this good, and, well, it's not like another one is arriving imminently, is it? As such, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is the only game in town, and, thankfully, it provides a damn good time, while delivering a perfect tribute to a cultural icon and one of comic books' most enduring heroes.

PSX Brasil - Victor Vitório - 85 / 100

In a way, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is easy to evaluate: if you're willing to be captivated by either LEGO or Batman, or even if you just want to enjoy the simple fun of playing together with a dear one, there are plenty of reasons to join in the romp of defending Gotham on the Bat's long life journey. On the other hand, those expecting in-depth character and gameplay development should look elsewhere.

Push Square - Liam Croft - 8 / 10

A referential and joyful deep dive into the world of Batman, the latest LEGO effort from TT Games is elite brick gaming. Legacy of the Dark Knight just wants to be an enjoyable time, and it refuses to falter from that commitment. This new LEGO Batman will be some of the best fun you have all year.

GRYOnline.pl - Krzysztof Lewandowski - 8 / 10.0

This is a really great game for all Batman fans. It can be a bit rough around the edges technically, and the gameplay is a bit too basic at times, but it’s hard not to appreciate just how much the developers love the Dark Knight in all his incarnations.

Share your non-conventional game tricks!

I'll start: In Lineage 2 I played as an Elven Elder. As a healer-class I can dispatch undead monsters, but I'm kinda useless against non-undead monsters. Especially, aggressive non-undead monsters which are super annoying for me.

So in hunting areas where there are both undead and non-undead monsters presented I'd first draw away non-undead monsters from their original location to another location about 100m away, then use hold/sleep magic to 'anchor' them to a new location. The magic will wane out after 15-20sec, but they will stay there for as long as I'm out of their sight.

After that I can deal with the undead monsters without being interfered by aggressive non-undead monsters. Hooray!

Obviously there are 2 drawbacks for this trick - Firstly, the monsters will stay at the new location until someone enters their line-of-sight, possibly scattering them again. Secondly, if someone kill these non-undead monsters they'll respawn at the original location which means I'll have to repeat the whole process again.

So what are some of the cool tricks have you been using in games?

Star Wars the Old Republic almost got a Realm Reborn style reboot but EA's board of directors said no

Ohlen ultimately realized he would move on after what sounds like a lengthy and extremely difficult pitch to Lucasfilm and EA for a full reboot of the game, which would see it renamed Star Wars: The New Republic. Ohlen spent half a year on a plan before getting the greenlight from former Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, as well as Star Wars creative boss Dave Filoni.

"I remember I got super excited because the big challenge was Patrick Söderlund [former EA chief design officer, who now heads up Arc Raiders developer Embark Studios]," Ohlen said next. "I think [he's] great but hates Star Wars: The Old Republic. And I convinced him... it was one of the greatest accomplishments of my career."

Unfortunately, everything then came crashing down. While Söderlund was sold, EA's board of directors was not.

"[They] remembered spending $300 million," Ohlen said, referring to The Old Republic's high development costs. "They're like, 'Why the fuck are we gonna spend a bunch more?'"

I was perusing the interviews on shmuplations and found this one with FromSoftware's founder Naotoshi Jin talking about the upcoming PS2 back in 1999. I thought it was a refreshingly sober and 'anti-hype' assessment of new tech that still feels relevant in 2026.

If you think about it, spore ain't an evolution game. It's a space game with the lengthiest character creation menu ever conceived since the dawn of gaming, and still, this character creation is leagues better than most of space age.

I think if spore had cut down on the space thing and gave us more depth on the planet business, it would go from a 10/10 game to a game people would never top.

I mean....spore IS still very much untopped, but you catch my drift, aanyways this is motivated solely by the fact I just re-downloaded spore, and I'm about to be sentenced to months of addiction again.

just want to say that im glad these kind of games are still allowed to exist. true AA titles that still have a bit of money and resources behind them, but maybe dont exactly set the world on fire with innovation or scope. just a goddamn videogame that you play and then you finish and think "that was a fun time" before moving on to the next thing. Looking for some great FPS / TPS either story driven, or at least not online pvp

Been trying to find some good FPS / third person shooter games - preferable story driven, but if they "feel good" to play I dont mind if it's something a bit more RPG like. I'm essentially trying to find something to play solo when taking a break from competitive shooters.

My problem is - I'm not particularly "good" at getting into games with arcadey graphics, or dated gameplay. I'm looking for something a bit more realistic.

Similar style games I've loved:
- Destiny
- The divisions
- Bordlerlands
- cyberpunk
- dead space
- SOMA
- far crys
- Tom Clancy wildlands / breakpoint
- GTFO
- Heavy rain (I know not FPS, but still first person story rich game with action)
- Resident evil remasters / newer ones
- TLoU
- Evil within series
- silent hill series
- horizon
- metro series
- pragmata
- spec ops the line

appreciate thats probably a lot of them already covered, but if anyone has similar recommendations please let me know - much appreciated!

Fond moments with a true Flash game?
r/gaming
Show full content

I kept thinking about it every once in a while. Around 2002 I played RockStar’s fly swatter. If memory served it was a Flash game on their website you can play while downloading something from their website (or when their website is dow).

The game is simple, yet quite challenging & satisfying - you have a swatter and a few flies hopping around the screen. The flies will react to your swatter movement, speed and shadow cast. Once you’ve squished the flies more will enter the screen. Once you’ve swatted like 20 flies they will stop coming.

i managed to download it using Flash Downloader it was one of my best time killers.

Just a thought why playing some RPG' sidequests
r/gaming
Show full content

It’s honestly funny how in RPGs a random NPC will look at your character with tears in their eyes and ask:

“Why are you helping me? What do you gain from this?”

Meanwhile the real answer 99% of players would give is:

“25,000 XP, gold, reputation points, and whatever legendary item you’re hiding at the end of this quest.”

Like bro, your village burning down is tragic and all, but I mainly accepted this quest because I saw the reward icon glowing purple.

What makes it even funnier is how our characters act like selfless heroes after casually breaking into every house in town, stealing everyone’s food and money, and looting ancient graves 10 minutes earlier. RPG protagonists are basically fantasy mercenaries with good PR lmao.

Looking for Game recommendation

I'm looking for Story driven game, not a 100+ hours plus game type like turnbase JRPGs. I'm feeling a little burnout from playing Yakuza Like a Dragon. (I'm usually main JRPG player but feeling burnout right now, Metaphor is in my list but doesn't feel like playing it right now)

I'm looking for something like action, adventure, story driven game with the world that I could dissolve myself into. I'm craving for something like Mass Effect type story, (It doesn't need to be Sci-fi genre) with action gameplay. (Something like The Last of Us Series, Uncharted Series, God of War Series) Like Plague Tales bite size like 10 or 20 hours of gameplay length wise. Can someone please recommend me a game like that ?

A glitch I discovered over 30 years ago on the Snes version of Mortal Kombat

I’ve never seen it mentioned anywhere else. I even asked Google AI and it appears to be unknown. I don’t think it’s a particularly useful glitch, but it was kind of fun to do. I’m sharing it here to see if anyone else maybe knew of it.

I remember playing around with vs mode. If you perform a throw as the timer runs out, and the character animations are mid throw at the exact moment the timer runs out, the second round has all the boundaries removed. You can walk through the other character, and even walk off screen.

I have owned a Snes in many years, so I can’t really prove this. I just remember it and when I tried to look it up, couldn’t find anything . I have Zero knowledge if this glitch works in single player, or on other ports of the game, or arcade. I kind of wondered if it might have some kind of use to speed runners, but I can’t think what

What started your gaming addiction?
r/gaming
Show full content

I grew up in the late 1900s (aka early 90s) in a household where I had to play half an hour of piano to play half an hour of Super Nintendo. If I played an hour of piano, guess what? I got half an hour of Super Nintendo. So I couldn’t play games like Link to the Past, Super Metroid, etc. cause they were so long and there was no way I could get to a save spot in 30 minutes. So I experienced games like Ocarina of Time and Majoras Mask way later in my life.

What this did was put gaming on a pedestal and made me horribly addicted to “itching the scratch”. As I got into high school, that rule kind of subsided but still small gaming portions (like tops an hour and a half). I’m now in my 30s and still incredibly addicted to gaming and binge when givin the opportunity. I even later told my parents that I think they shouldn’t have done that because I might have not liked gaming as much as I do because of their rule.

I was curious if anyone had any weird stories like mine that caused them to become horribly addicted or a game that just made you want to find more games to scratch that itch.

Our characters in game are meant to have sort of a cartoonish-undead vibe (think zombies, vampires, etc.), but for the area boss, we wanted to stay within our art-style while trying to add a bit of an intimidation factor.

How do we feel about the colors, lighting, enemy scaling... just looking at this, can you tell the fight is going to be challenging? Looking for honest feedback or constructive criticism!

Krafton Will Likely Have to Pay $250 Million Bonus for Subnautica 2 That It Tried to Avoid

When Krafton acquired Unknown Worlds Entertainment back in 2021, part of the agreement indicated that a major bonus would be offered if certain revenue targets were achieved. According to the stipulation, if developer Unknown Worlds Entertainmentearned more than $69.8 million in revenue, its new parent company would have to pay $3.12 for each additional dollar of sales, with a cap of $250 million. Given the game has already reached a million players and many more will likely pick it up over the weekend when there's more free time, things are looking good for the developers who were promised bonuses.

  1. The speed is much slower and I much prefer the speed in the 1st, I feel way too slow in this one. My guess is that is like that to make exploration feel longer.

  2. I haven’t really been scared or nervous yet and have a sense of fear playing compared to the 1st one.

  3. Base building is definitely better but I wouldn’t mind seeing a few more updates to the equipment.

Please feel free to add anything to this that you would like to see change so far.

Trails in the Sky Helps Its Developer Reach 1,216% Increase in Profit

We're used to seeing companies' earnings change by up to 20%, but Nihon Falcom set a crazy example: it saw a 1,216.4% jump in operating profit year-over-year, according to its financial reportfor the first half of the fiscal year, which will end in September 2026.

The studio earned ¥969 million ($6.1 million), a huge improvement compared to ¥73 million ($0.5 million) in the first half last year. The result is driven by Nihon Falcom's Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, a remake of the series, which contributed to the licensing division's 194.8% revenue surge.

Kadokawa opposes activist shareholder’s proposal to remove current president and CEO

"It cited several concerns, including what it perceives as Kadokawa having a “quantity over quality” approach to IP creation, a “failure to fully leverage global publishing capabilities despite owning Elden Ring developer FromSoftware,” and a steep decline in earnings per share during Natsuno’s appointment."

DLSSEverything v1.1 - A simple version manager for DLSS2, DLSS3 and Ray Reconstruction DLLs

Hey all, I'm back with an update. I implemented some of your requested changes along with some of my own. Enjoy!

What is this?

  • Quickly scan your game folders for Nvidia DLLs to see their current version
  • Easily download any new nvidia DLSS DLL versions you want to use
  • Easily replace your game's DLSS DLLs with the version of your choice, or revert back to the original. Simply click the drop down to change to a different version.

Why?

Updating nvidia DLLs inside of a game's directory to newer versions can improve FPS and image quality.

What games is this intended for?

  • Single player games / offline games
  • Online co-op games are generally OK to modify ex Baldurs Gate
  • Do not modify DLSS files for any competitive online games, or any games that have anti-cheat software. Most online games have anti cheat software. If you are unsure, do not modify the DLSS files for those games.

v1.1 Changes

  • Folders can now be favorited
  • Added bulk migration tool (for already modified dlls only)
  • Added installer to release. Installed versions will check for updates on startup and prompt for auto update
  • Added button to delete downloaded DLLs
  • The window to download new DLLs will now intercept all downloads, not just the first one
  • Added version to UI
  • Updated most dependencies

Favorite soundscapes from classic games?

I love good sound work but really don’t understand anything about it, so want to expand my base of knowledge. What are some of your favorite soundscapes from classic games? Games that could otherwise be mediocre if not for killer soundtrack and punchy effects?

Instant standouts for me are everything about Rayman 2, the Great Escape (especially the musical sting when you solve a puzzle—I think it was wood flutes) and the ambient world sounds in Morrowind.

Looking for a game for me and my son to play

Looking for something that we can play together when he is gone to school and still both access separately while only one of us is online. I was hoping for something survival-esque, or like civilization building or something. Like where I can drop in and farm some resources, and start working on our base. And then he can come along later and finish working on it later. Or we can both be on together and go hunting or fishing or exploring or whatever. I would prefer more realistic to less. And I would prefer some story or mystery to discover as well. Any thoughts?

Looking for friends (ik it sounds sad asf)

Hey there! Well I basically moved to Canada a while ago, that meant I’m not able to play with my childhood friends anymore, and it’s honestly making me feel awful. I’ve been able to make friends but not any that game much or at all. If anyone is willing to take someone in under their wing for a bit it would be highly appreciated. I usually play Minecraft and valorant, but I highly enjoy games like repo, peak, golf with friends etc. I honestly haven’t even been able to play most of these cause well I don’t have friends. Shit that sounded sad. I’m from Mexico so I do have a bit of an accent but nothing awful (I hope), 20 M. Feel free to send me a dm, sorry if this is off topic. Feel free to delete if it inconveniences the mods.

I find it so cool how nowadays, video game characters look just as good in-game as they do in covers

This may seem trivial to youngins, but not too long ago, characters in-game looked nothing like what was in covers and promotional material. We'd have beautiful art in cartridges, CDs, DVDs and posters but the actual characters were of a much lower quality. Mario for instance was just a bunch of pixels, a far cry from what he was actually supposed to look like. That's not a thing anymore

Did we lose the magic of community in online multiplayer games?
r/gaming
Show full content

Rational Rant.

I remember dropping into RuneScape or Counter-Strike for the first time and feeling like a pioneer. Nobody had a clue what they were doing, and that was the magic. You’d meet a stranger at a dungeon and actually figure it out together in real time. If we wiped, who cares? That was part of the fun.

I remember in RuneScape while I and many people were fishing behind some willows a guy tells us “You can take a boat to an island for lobster fishing”. And thats how we learned about Karamja, I still remember that interaction.

Now, every game feels "solved" before it even launches. Between betas and pro guides, the mystery is dead on arrival. You can’t even get into a group unless you already know the meta and the optimal route. It’s turned gaming from a shared adventure into a high-pressure job where you’re expected to be an expert on day one.

We’ve traded the joy of discovery for the stress of optimization. I miss the mystery of being lost with everyone else.

Is there any game that still has that kind of community? WoW maybe?

I compiled info from Forza Horizon 6 reviews on things us fans really wanna hear about - mi abuela, game modes, barn finds...
r/gaming
Show full content

I played about 300 hours for FH5 and I'm super hyped for FH6. However, before committing to the Premium edition at launch, I wanted to wait for the reviews to come out and check some specific things. It was a bit of a disappointment to see so many reviewers not covering the details I actually wanted to read about. Yes, Japan is amazing, the graphics and soundtracks are great, most reviewers are covering that. But how about mi abuela? And the new features? So I spent this morning going over several reviews and pages on Forza.net to create this compilation of things us fans want to know about. Enjoy!

1. DIALOGUE

Neowin - https://www.neowin.net/reviews/forza-horizon-6-review-a-stunning-open-world-japanese-adventure/

"I like this change, as the previous entry treated you like a superstar right away, crippling motivation and making the overall narrative a bit cringe (please, amigo, stop calling me a superstar). In Japan, though, you meet two friends who will help you get around the area, learn about events, landmarks, and more. And no, these two do not insert random Japanese words into dialog to sound more 'authentic,' thanks for that. Random Spanish words in dialogs in Forza Horizon 5 were, honestly, unbearable."

"Pros: No cringe acting"

OverTake.gg - https://www.overtake.gg/news/forza-horizon-6-review-big-in-japan.4478/

"However, the characters, overall design, and 'tone' in Forza Horizon 6 are very well done, and as someone who isn't 16 anymore (sadly), I felt engaged by it."

"But for example, JDM: Japanese Drift Master had a more creative approach to the tofu delivery missions."

PC Gamer - https://www.pcgamer.com/games/racing/forza-horizon-6-review/

"If you have played any of the previous games, you will have done all of this many times before. And while it's not a major issue-going fast in cars is, after all, why we're here-it's made worse by how bland the dialogue is. It's all trite platitudes and empty positivity. Everyone's having an amazing time, which they are constantly explaining to you with the same superficial tone that my local supermarket's in-store radio uses to tell me about the latest deal on tinned tomatoes."

"It attempts to use dialogue to explain the specific tweaks being made and the reasons behind them, but the amount of information imparted is dwarfed by the constant reinforcement of what a gosh darn privilege it is to be here. It's peak second-screen gaming, words that simply wash over you in all their banal triviality. We're all having so much fun! Are you having fun? Well? Are you?"

"This series does not have characters, only delivery mechanisms for insipid chat."

GamesRadar+ - https://www.gamesradar.com/games/forza-horizon/forza-horizon-6-review/

"There is quite a lot of dialogue between the characters, and while the script is solid enough, it doesn't quite hit home. It's all very family-friendly while also trying to channel modding culture cool, which doesn't quite gel. Similarly, the characters don't look anywhere near as convincing as the cars."

Mobalytics - https://mobalytics.gg/news/guides/forza-horizon-6-review

"The story in Forza Horizon 6 is easily the least compelling part of the experience. It's loosely structured, thin on content, and delivered with a level of enthusiasm that feels more obligatory than inspired. The characters lack any charm or personality that's needed to reflect and elevate the vibe and energy of the Horizon Festival."

Windows Central - https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/forza/forza-horizon-6-doesnt-have-the-best-voice-acting-so-heres-how-to-turn-off-the-audio-dialogue

"The writing and voice acting in Forza Horizon 6 isn't the greatest, so if you'd rather not hear the characters chatting, here's how to turn it off… Let's face it, nobody will be playing Forza Horizon 6 for a killer storyline or some incredible voice acting."

Stevivor - https://stevivor.com/reviews/forza-horizon-6-review/

"While I don't really expect cultural commentary as such from a game like this, the whole [food-delivery] thing struck me as irritatingly tone-deaf."

Game Informer - https://gameinformer.com/review/forza-horizon-6/remaining-on-the-podium

"Though inconsistent voice acting sometimes pulled me out of these excursions, I loved learning about the vehicle I was driving or the area I was speeding through."

2. GAME MODES

Forza.net - https://forza.net/news/forza-horizon-6-progression

"Horizon Play is our suite of game modes designed to be fun and competitive. These include The Eliminator: our open-world battle royale mode; Hide & Seek: a game of chases where the Hider must stay hidden from their opponents; Touge Showdown: two-player head-to-head championships with three races; and Spec Racing: a new mode where everyone is racing stock cars and the only differentiator is pure skill. In addition, there are standard free-for-all Horizon Racing and Horizon Drift modes."

TalkEsport - https://www.talkesport.com/news/forza-horizon-6-multiplayer-modes/

"Horizon Play brings back classic modes, including Horizon Racing and The Eliminator, the battle royale-style mode where players race from one point to another across a section of the map, with losing racers eliminated along the way. The Eliminator now starts all players in a 1984 Honda City. That's a change from previous entries where the starter car varied. Hide and Seek, which was added post-launch in Forza Horizon 5, is now available from day one in Forza Horizon 6."

"Spec Racing includes dirt and road racing, but every player uses the same car, which levels the playing field. There are no custom modifications allowed, so results come down to driver skill. Touge Showdown is a 1v1 mode that rotates across five preset mountain routes, based on the single-player versions of the same events."

Game Informer - https://gameinformer.com/review/forza-horizon-6/remaining-on-the-podium

"I had an absolute blast, whether I was competing in Horizon Festival events like traditional circuit races and sprints or Discover Japan events like unsanctioned street races and winding touge battles, both solo and with other players."

Traxion.gg - https://traxion.gg/forza-horizon-6-review/

"The same recognisable multiplayer modes return, such as Hide and Seek and the battle royale option, The Eliminator, all working similarly. Spec races (everyone in the same car) and Japan-appropriate Togue Battle are new, but otherwise, join the slick convoy system with friends and explore."

Steam store page - https://store.steampowered.com/app/2483190/Forza_Horizon_6/

"Seamlessly participate in Time Attack Circuits and Drag Meets or show off your customized cars at Car Meets. Earn new co-op LINK skills with other players, compete in Spec Racing Championships, or jump into the Horizon Multiplayer modes you know and love including The Eliminator and nailbiting Hide & Seek."

3. NEW FEATURES (vs. FH5)

PC Gamer - https://www.pcgamer.com/games/racing/forza-horizon-6-review/

"The best activities in the Discover Japan path are the new touge events-head-to-head races down narrow, winding mountain roads. These are tight, technical routes that make for an enjoyable challenge, and limiting the competition to just a single opponent keeps the action focused more on the driving than on fighting against the pack."

"The reason there are only two showcases this time around is because they've been intermixed with a new capstone event type, Rush. These are time trials on custom built courses that have a little visual flair to them but are mostly focused on technical driving. I loved them."

"One small but somewhat notable change for Forza Horizon 6 is the splitting of campaign progression into two separate ranking systems: One for the festival itself, and another for extracurricular activities dotted around the map. This second collection, Discover Japan… It's not revelatory by any means, but as a small nudge towards a more purposeful reward path, it works."

Neowin - https://www.neowin.net/reviews/forza-horizon-6-review-a-stunning-open-world-japanese-adventure/

"Speaking of cruising around, Forza Horizon 6 introduces a new mechanic called Auto Drive. You set a destination, launch Anna (the virtual assistant), and select Auto Drive. As the name suggests, the car drives itself to the destination while you enjoy the scenery."

"Gas stations are finally here as well. Even though refuelling mechanics are not present, gas stations and shops with parked cars further add to realism and immersion."

"There are the so-called Treasure Cars. These vehicles (nine of them) are scattered around the map, and you have to solve a riddle to find their locations."

"Pull over to one, and you will be offered to buy a car with upgraded specs at a lower price. This allows you to find interesting builds, unique tuning setups, and more. Aftermarket cars spawn dynamically, depending on your progression levels, and they also include unique Forza Edition cars."

Operation Sports - https://www.operationsports.com/forza-horizon-6-details-new-touge-battles-progression-changes-in-latest-reveal/

"You can get access to Touge Battles after unlocking Horizon Festival, which is about one hour of gameplay… Forzathon Live is being renamed to 'Stunt Party.'"

Creative Bloq - https://www.creativebloq.com/entertainment/gaming/forza-horizon-6-review-pure-video-game-joy-at-200mph

"Rush Events are unlocked when you've earned enough Credits from racing events and from style points, and they're pure arcade nonsense – here a time trial down a ski slope… The return of the old wristband progression system from Horizon and Horizon 2 helps massively. Instead of immediately showering you with the fastest cars imaginable, Horizon 6 makes you work through seven event tiers."

"The Touge Showdown events are probably the clearest example of that improvement… These Initial D-inspired mountain races are fantastic, tighter and rougher than Horizon's usual supercar circuits, full of narrow corners, dangerous overtakes and scrappy recoveries."

Steam store - https://store.steampowered.com/app/2483190/Forza_Horizon_6/

"Create with unprecedented freedom anywhere in Japan as you build custom events with your friends in CoLab, the upgraded EventLab toolset – now featuring multiplayer support and the ability to build literally anywhere in the world."

Stevivor - https://stevivor.com/reviews/forza-horizon-6-review/

"There's a whole food delivery diversion that's new, and while it's a bit more Crazy Taxi than Uber Eats in execution, it still lands as uncomfortably dystopian nevertheless. Where Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth used the same idea to reinforce the protagonist's financial plight, Forza Horizon 6 positions it flatly as a good way to make money."

KeenGamer - https://www.keengamer.com/articles/guides/forza-horizon-6-progression-guide-wristbands-stamps-and-horizon-play/

"Horizon Rush: brand-new timed obstacle courses across locations such as the Tokyo City Docks and the Sotoyama Ski Resort. Collecting all 7 Wristbands earns you the title of Horizon Legend and unlocks access to Legend Island, an exclusive region of the map. Legend Island includes the Legend Island Circuit, The Colossus (the longest Goliath in the series), and unique events built for R-class vehicles."

Gamer.org - https://www.gamer.org/forza-horizon-6-new-features-for-wheel-drift-and-cruise-players/

"Horizon Rush is a new event type that focuses on obstacle-based time trials: Courses run through places like Tokyo docks and alpine ski runs. You deal with jumps, moving obstacles, and smashable props on the clock."

4. WHEELSPIN SYSTEM

Stevivor - https://stevivor.com/reviews/forza-horizon-6-review/

"As outright joyous as I find Forza Horizon 6 to be on the whole, I do have gripes. I can't help but find the gacha spins repulsive, though they do feel a wee bit downplayed this time out compared to prior series entries."

Forza.net - https://forza.net/news/forza-horizon-6-progression

"Wheelspins also return; however, you will only be able to obtain these once you've qualified for the Horizon Festival. To maintain the integrity of the progression at the heart of this game, we've rebalanced Wheelspins, and especially Super Wheelspins, to be rarer to earn throughout playing the game and more rewarding when you do spin them."

Mobalytics - https://mobalytics.gg/news/guides/forza-horizon-6-review

"FH6 finally addresses one of the series' longest-standing issues: the pacing. I remember that in Forza Horizon 4 and 5, many other players and I were granted top-speed hypercars in the first hour due to the wheelspins feature. Now, the game spaces out rewards more thoughtfully, with tiers of cars being locked behind the returning wristband system. Each new vehicle feels earned, and the sense of progression is far more satisfying as a result."

Traxion.gg - https://traxion.gg/forza-horizon-6-will-rebalance-wheelspin-rewards/

"Meanwhile, Super Wheelspins, which had a higher chance of rewarding supercars in previous games, will be 'rarer to earn' and 'more rewarding' when spinning."

Insider Gaming - https://insider-gaming.com/reviews/forza-horizon-6-review/

"I'm glad to see Forza Horizon 6 adopt a more linear progression path. The aim of the game is wristbands, with each variant unlocking more races and Horizon Stunts for you to challenge yourself on."

GameSpot - https://www.gamespot.com/reviews/forza-horizon-6-review-dopamine-highway/1900-6418489/

"It feels like you can't drive for 30 seconds without amassing some new reward, and it's rare that you won't have enough money to buy whatever it is that's attracted your attention. Every time I went into the menus, I had more stuff to claim. It was overwhelming, but not in a bad way. It's almost comical how much the game cheers you on and showers you with gifts in the form of customization options for your car and character, cash, and new events."

5. MULTIPLAYER

TechRadar - https://www.techradar.com/gaming/forza-horizon-6-review

"Forza Horizon 6 has done a great job fixing up its multiplayer suites, which could be rocky in prior entries with frequent convoy and event dropouts. In my testing for this review, I found multiplayer to be largely seamless."

"The solo experience is by and large excellent, but Forza Horizon 6 does a much better job than its predecessors at encouraging you to enter multiplayer spaces. A new recommended event menu highlights ongoing multiplayer activities like Eliminator and playlist events."

Temple of Geek - https://templeofgeek.com/forza-horizon-6-review/

"Multiplayer was tough to test in earnest during this prelaunch period. I was able to get into a couple Stunt Parties and have some fun blasting my Ferrari SF90 Stradale through speed traps and zones together among other things. Minor testing of matchmade racing with a couple others was also possible. Pretty solid netplay held up the experience quite well."

GamingTrend - https://gamingtrend.com/reviews/forza-horizon-6-review/

"Playground Games collapsed Horizon's suite of multiplayer options into Horizon Play. That now includes their Horizon Racing, Togue Showdowns, Drift racing, Hide & Seek, The Eliminator, and the new Spec Racing. In Spec Racing, everyone is given the same random car, and you run a 3-race championship… Yes, the best drivers will win, but stick everyone with a D-class car and the only difference might be whether you're using a manual clutch."

Tom's Guide - https://www.tomsguide.com/gaming/forza-horizon-6-review

"Online multiplayer may still get you some frustrating moments of being used like a glorified wall buffer for other competitors, which the penalty system can sometimes miss in competitive racing."

OverTake.gg - https://www.overtake.gg/news/forza-horizon-6-review-big-in-japan.4478/

"You can race together in co-op events, there are car meet spots, convoys, stunt parties, leaderboards for almost everything in the game, and the extensive Horizon Play section with championships, drift battles, eliminator events, and so on. My favorites are the Time Attack courses in the open world, where leaderboard displays for the class of the car you're driving appear right on the track."

GameRant - https://gamerant.com/forza-horizon-6-review/

"Most multiplayer features were not properly testable during the review period."

Neowin - https://www.neowin.net/reviews/forza-horizon-6-review-a-stunning-open-world-japanese-adventure/

"I could not try the multiplayer capabilities, as too few people were playing the review build ahead of the release."

Forza.net - https://forza.net/news/forza-horizon-6-progression

"Horizon Play also introduces its own levelling system. You'll earn XP by simply playing in Horizon Play game modes, obtaining a new Badge for every 10 ranks you achieve – up to Level 100… Series Standing Leaderboards are available for each game mode and display the top performing players for the current series. When a new Festival Playlist Series begins, these leaderboards are reset."

6. SEASON / LIVE SERVICE STRUCTURE

PC Gamer - https://www.pcgamer.com/games/racing/forza-horizon-6-review/

"Seasons return, but I didn't get a good chance to see how drastically they alter the map. Only the spring and summer seasons were available during the review period-yes, there's cherry blossoms. The seasonal playlist also wasn't enabled, so we'll have to see how those events shake out."

Insider Gaming - https://insider-gaming.com/reviews/forza-horizon-6-review/

"The preview period included just Summer and Spring seasons, and I can't wait to see how the map transitions with Autumn and Winter. I'm eagerly awaiting the start of the first Festival Playlist to give me a fresh checklist of things to tick off. Add to the fact that Forza Horizon 6 has two pieces of DLC later down the line, and the opportunities for fun are endless." (The Xbox.com Premium Upgrade store listing identifies these as "two upcoming game Expansions" - official names "Forza Horizon 6 Expansion 1" and "Forza Horizon 6 Expansion 2," subtitles not yet revealed.)

Windows Central - https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/forza/everything-we-know-about-the-forza-horizon-6-festival-playlist-so-far

"The Festival Playlist will be available in Forza Horizon 6 at launch… From the same Q&A it has been confirmed that Festival Playlist cars will be made available after the fact. How, exactly, we still don't know, but it has been mentioned that cycling them into the Aftermarket Cars rotation is a possibility."

Traxion.gg - https://traxion.gg/forza-horizon-6-review/

"At the time of reviewing the game, Playground Games had yet to start its first Festival Playlist (the studio's name for seasons in Forza Horizon). If it's anything like the last game, though, a wealth of extra content is to be expected."

Gamer.org - https://www.gamer.org/forza-horizon-6-new-features-for-wheel-drift-and-cruise-players/

"Seasons are back, but the contrast between them is much stronger than in FH5's Mexico. Japan supports everything from cherry blossom spring to frozen alpine winter, and it leans into that harder than previous games. There's also at least one northern alpine biome where snow is present year-round."

7. COMPLETIONIST ELEMENTS (Barn Finds, Bonus Boards, PR Stunts, Accolades)

VGC - https://www.videogameschronicle.com/review/forza-horizon-6/

"It took me more than 50 hours to reach the last tier of both the Horizon Festival and Discover Japan, and even then, there were still plenty of incomplete icons on the map and a large number of collectibles to tick off. Anyone considering 100% completion is looking at hundreds of hours of gameplay. There's a reason these aren't annual releases."

Traxion.gg - https://traxion.gg/forza-horizon-6-review/

"Aside from the pretty visuals and varied terrain, the linchpin of the experience is once again collecting. Be that items such as barn find vehicles, treasure cars, bonus boards, mascots or experience points. And even more experience points. And yet more experience points… Notably, there are some significant differences this time around. Gone are accolades, whereby achieving set tasks earned rewards."

Switchblade Gaming - https://www.switchbladegaming.com/forza-horizon-6/collectibles-guide/

"FH6 has five distinct collectible categories. Players chasing the credits FAQ often conflate Treasure Cars with Barn Finds - Playground Games confirmed these are separate systems with different unlock conditions and different rewards."

"Every region of Horizon Japan has its own food-themed mascot characters - Onigiri in some zones, Tempura in others - scattered roadside at collectible points. Smashing all 200 delivers exactly 1,000,000 credits."

"Seven stamp tiers exist: Yellow → Green → Blue → Pink → Orange → Purple → Gold. Unlocking each tier in sequence releases the next batch of Barn Find Rumors."

VGC - https://www.videogameschronicle.com/guide/forza-horizon-6-barn-find-locations-how-to-unlock-and-find-all-15-barn-find-cars/

"Barn Finds are unlocked slightly differently in Forza Horizon 6, compared to previous years. This time, your performance in Horizon Festival events has no bearing at all on Barn Finds – you could make your way all the way up to the Gold Wristband and still only have one or two Barn Finds on the map. That's because Barn Finds are now tied to the Discover Japan missions."

"In order to get all 15 Barn Finds, then, you have to collect all seven Discover Japan stamps and reach Master Explorer status."

Stevivor - https://stevivor.com/reviews/forza-horizon-6-review/

"Japan's famous regional mascots are a star feature with 200 to be found across the map. Rather upsettingly though you have to drive into them at speed in order for them to be collected, and doing so invariably changes their cheery facial expressions to one of horror and woe upon impact."

GameSpot - https://www.gamespot.com/reviews/forza-horizon-6-review-dopamine-highway/1900-6418489/

"You'll routinely unlock new mission types, such as the series' popular Barn Finds, hidden fixer-upper vehicles stashed off the beaten path. It feels like you can't drive for 30 seconds without amassing some new reward."

"My favorite activity, which I actually wish there was more of, is finding all nine treasure cars."

Game Informer - https://gameinformer.com/review/forza-horizon-6/remaining-on-the-podium

"I couldn't help but smash through collectible regional mascots or seek out hidden Barn Find and Treasure Cars across each of the 10 regions."

8. PERFORMANCE

Forza.net - https://forza.net/news/forza-horizon-6-radio

"On Xbox Series X, the Quality mode runs in native 4K resolution at 30fps with increased visual fidelity, while the Performance mode targets 4K resolution, scaling dynamically to maintain a smooth 60fps. Meanwhile, Xbox Series S players can enjoy Japan in 1440p at 30fps with Quality mode, and 1080p at 60fps in Performance mode – with both options dynamically scaling the output resolution to maintain their targeted framerate."

DSOGaming - https://www.dsogaming.com/pc-performance-analyses/forza-horizon-6-benchmarks-pc-performance-analysis/

"At 1080p/Max Settings/No RT, Forza Horizon 6 was CPU-bound on our NVIDIA RTX 5090. The game can use up to 10 CPU cores/threads."

"It's also worth noting that Forza Horizon 6 appears to favour NVIDIA's GPUs. Neither the AMD Radeon RX 7900XTX nor the RX 9070XT could come close to the performance of the NVIDIA RTX 5080. Not only that, but the AMD Radeon RX 7900XTX was significantly slower than the RX 9070XT."

"All in all, Forza Horizon 6 is one of the best optimized PC games of 2026. It runs smoothly on a wide range of PC systems, and it looks amazing. I also did not experience any stutters, even when exploring its huge open world."

"There is also support for NVIDIA DLSS 4.5, AMD FSR 3.1, and Intel XeSS. Surprisingly enough, there is no support for AMD FSR Frame Gen or Intel XeSS Frame Gen."

PC Gamer - https://www.pcgamer.com/games/racing/forza-horizon-6-review/

"Forza Horizon 6 is a modern PC game, which means on first launch be prepared to wait while its shaders are optimised. When I first played I had some light stuttering, but this quickly cleared up. Since then, it's been smooth running on my 5070 Ti."

PC Gamer hardware analysis - https://www.pcgamer.com/hardware/forza-horizon-6-pc-performance-analysis-heavy-on-your-cpu-with-uninspiring-ray-tracing-but-at-least-it-all-runs-very-nicely/

"Forza Horizon 6 ray tracing is entirely optional, and it's used to replace screen space reflections and global illumination."

PC Gamer - https://www.pcgamer.com/hardware/graphics-cards/even-if-you-have-an-rtx-5090-i-dont-recommend-using-ray-tracing-in-forza-horizon-6-not-because-of-the-performance-hit-simply-because-its-just-not-worth-using/

"Even if you have an RTX 5090, I don't recommend using ray tracing in Forza Horizon 6. Not because of the performance hit, simply because it's just not worth using."

Neowin - https://www.neowin.net/reviews/forza-horizon-6-review-a-stunning-open-world-japanese-adventure/

"These specs are enough for comfortable gaming at 1440p. At a mix of high and ultra settings, the game runs at a solid 100-120 FPS, which is more than comfortable. The Forza Horizon games have always been well-optimized, and so far, Horizon 6 does not disappoint."

"For the first time in the series, Forza Horizon utilizes plenty of ray-tracing technologies (the previous game had them only in vehicle viewing mode). Cranking them up definitely kneecaps performance, but you get a better image in return. Once I set it to Extreme, my FPS dipped far below 60 and settled at 30-40 FPS."

9. STEAM DECK PERFORMANCE

Stevivor - https://stevivor.com/reviews/forza-horizon-6-review/

"For those interested in handheld play, Forza Horizon 6 benchmarks at a rock solid 30FPS on low settings on the Steam Deck OLED. While it freely allows you to increase the frame cap, it's pretty dicey at anything higher. Playing at 45FPS is mostly okay and does feel smoother, but things will dip pretty regularly back down to the 30s anyway. It's incredibly cool that the game is able to run at all on the Deck, but the presentational compromise is so severe that it really does harm the experience."

Steam Deck HQ - https://steamdeckhq.com/game-reviews/forza-horizon-6/

"Forza Horizon 6 booted up on my Steam Deck OLED at 720p, the low preset, and with a 30fps cap."

"The first is setting the in-game FPS cap to 45fps and using the Steam Deck Quick Access Menu to cap it to 30fps. This is a better cap, though there will be a bit more input lag as you'd expect."

"I noticed the GPU usage wasn't too high, and forcing the Manual GPU Clock to 1600MHz helped here. This does use up more power, but the result is better as far as I'm concerned on the OLED model."

"There is a way to turn the settings down below the Low preset to get better performance, and I do not recommend it, as turning off shadows makes the game look awful. I also tried playing at a lower resolution, FSR ultra performance, and the Very Low preset. Even with those settings, you can't get close to a locked 60fps on Steam Deck."

"The developers have noted that there will be more Steam Deck optimization, and if anything major changes in the future, we will revisit this. Until then, Forza Horizon 6 delivers a very good portable experience on Steam Deck, both online and offline."

Forza.net - https://forza.net/news/forza-horizon-6-steam-deck

"We're excited to reveal that Forza Horizon 6 will be Verified for Steam Deck and optimized for PC gaming handhelds, including the Xbox ROG Ally and Ally X, at launch on May 19."

10. WHEEL SUPPORT

OverTake.gg - https://www.overtake.gg/news/forza-horizon-6-review-big-in-japan.4478/

"Since Forza Horizon started out as a spin-off of Forza Motorsport and Turn 10 also helped develop it, the various vehicle types, powertrains, tires, and suspension setups feel quite believable… This applies to both controller and wheel gameplay, which is why we'd already based our Xbox preview on the MOZA Wheel gameplay."

"On my PC sim racing setup - a wild mix of Simucube 3, Active Pedals, Simagic Shifter, Neo X Hub and Handbrake - everything has worked so far, except for one key factor: the Force Feedback was missing. Unfortunately, we didn't receive a list of officially supported devices for the PC in advance."

"At least I was able to map all my devices, and I hope the FFB issue can still be resolved via an update. Otherwise, Emuwheel might be an option again - something people already had to use for FH5 with some devices."

"Yes, it basically works, but FH6 doesn't enforce the clutch, meaning you can shift gears without pressing the clutch. Unfortunately, Horizon 6 is too much of an arcade racer for that and is designed more for gamepads."

OverTake.gg preview - https://www.overtake.gg/news/we-played-forza-horizon-6-finally-good-on-a-wheel.4362/

"It's not quite satisfying yet, but I liked it better than Forza Horizon 5 right off the bat: The weight and overall performance of the cars definitely feel believable. On the Time Attack track, I was definitely more precise with the wheel compared to the gamepad and also a tad faster, it just fits my style a bit more."

"What really adds to the feel for steering wheel drivers - especially when driving in cockpit view - is the hand animation, which now supports steering angles of up to 540 degrees, so the driver actually grips the wheel in a more realistic way. It only took almost 14 years!"

"The force feedback in Forza Horizon 6 is a bit of a mixed bag."

11. ACCESSIBILITY

Forza.net - https://forza.net/news/forza-horizon-6-radio

"Our biggest new feature, however, is High Contrast Mode, which makes the game's open world of Japan more visually accessible. High Contrast Mode simplifies the screen to make it easier for players to distinguish important objects."

"AutoDrive can be accessed with ANNA by using the d-pad while you're exploring Japan… Meanwhile, Proximity Radar helps identify cars in your blind spots, making it easier to avoid unintentional collisions and keep the racing clean."

"In a post-launch update, players will be able to enable American Sign Language (ASL) and British Sign Language (BSL) for cinematics which will feature picture-in-picture display of an ASL or BSL interpreter during cinematic game scenes, with the ability to change where the interpreter appears on screen."

"Other accessibility options returning to Forza Horizon 6 include full controller remapping functionality on all platforms, screen reading narration, subtitles, adjustable camera field-of-view options on PC, color-blind filters, Offline Game Speed modification, and our full set of difficulty settings and driving assists."

TechRadar - https://www.techradar.com/gaming/forza-horizon-6-review

"In the visual accessibility tab, you can adjust game and user interface motion blur, as well as alter environmental color filters with the deuteranopia, protanopia, and tritanopia colorblind sliders. There is a robust high contrast mode available, too, letting you add highlights to terrain, cars, objects, and more."

Temple of Geek - https://templeofgeek.com/forza-horizon-6-review/

"The barriers to entry are nigh nonexistent, especially if you already have and need accessible-friendly controllers. You can even have your navigation helper, ANNA, drive the car for you."

"Forza Horizon 6 is massively impressive in scale, fun, and cultural importance… There's not much to get in the way of its enjoyment with tons of accessibility and difficulty options, and you're hard pressed to find someone unable to Forza their heart out."

Bleacher Report - https://bleacherreport.com/articles/25427655-forza-horizon-6-review-gameplay-impressions-videos-modes-and-top-features

"Besides being something of a technical marvel for how well it runs despite all it has going on, Horizon 6 is another achievement in the options and accessibility department."

Steam Deck HQ - https://steamdeckhq.com/game-reviews/forza-horizon-6/

"Forza Horizon 6 has an absolute plethora of accessibility settings, as we've come to expect from the series. We obviously have the basics like subtitle support, as well as driving assists, but we also have plenty of added extras to make this game playable by as many as possible."

Mobalytics - https://mobalytics.gg/news/guides/forza-horizon-6-review

"What's also impressive is how seamlessly these refinements integrate with the series' award-winning accessibility features."

What's the current situation with Subnautica 2?
r/gaming
Show full content

I see the marketing machine revving up for Subnautica 2 and I'm getting buy-curious.

However, I recall the whole debacle where the devs were denied bonuses under fishy circumstances (with evidence the perpetrator consulted an AI chatbot to assist). Whatever came of all that?

I'm interested in the game, particularly the co-op but I want to make an informed buying decision; I don't want my money going to scumbags.

Edit: Thanks for the replies everyone, appreciate you.

Some Reviews (updating):

IGN - Luke Reilly - 10 / 10

Technically, Forza Horizon 6 has not skipped a beat, and it runs like a titan. Aesthetically, it’s the best-looking and best-sounding game Playground has produced to date, set in the most wonderfully realised map it’s ever crafted – full of dense, authentic details and stunning driving roads. It’s rewarding to explore, the campaign is well-paced with a great payoff, and I simply cannot stop playing. I’ll always concede Forza Horizon 3 may forever be my favourite open-world racer, because who doesn’t love driving around their own backyard, but make no mistake: Forza Horizon 6 is unequivocally the best. The new standard in open-world racing is here, and it’s a gundamn masterpiece.

Eurogamer - Dom Peppiatt - 5 / 5

Forza Horizon exists at the intersection between simulation and arcade. There have been missteps along the way, where the balance has thrown out to either side, but here, in Japan, Playground Games has the traction, the momentum, and the confidence to barrel through the finish line apace, hitting all the corners and nailing all the lines. This is Forza Horizon at its most powerful: with broad appeal and niche specialty, overclocking the fun factor whilst adding depth to its most finicky mechanics. The Japanese backdrop came at the perfect time; a beautiful accompaniment to a beautiful game. It's taken 14 years to get here, but I think Forza Horizon 6 finally delivers on the promises the original game made, way back in October 2012.

Radio Times - Rob Leane - 5 / 5

Turn 10 Studios have mastered the art of creating these giant sandbox environments, stuffing them with varied things to do, and letting you loose in a staggering array of different vehicles to just have fun. Tune the radio to your favourite music genre, start your engines, and let yourself enjoy it.

Giant Bomb -Jeff Grubb - 5 / 5

In a lot of ways, this is my ideal video game. Becoming one with the controller and the vehicle in a drop-dead-gorgeous setting that essentially never runs out of content? It’s almost perfect, and I think it’s fair to use that word for the craft that is on display in Forza Horizon 6.

VGC - Chris Scullion - 5 / 5

Forza Horizon 5 was already an exceptional racing game, but Forza Horizon 6 takes everything up a notch to deliver an even more engaging, entertaining and all-encompassing experience. There's an absolute wealth of racing, exploring and collecting to do here, and that's before the inevitable live-service updates start adding even more content. Few games are as essential as this.

Dexerto - Joe Pring - 5 / 5

Horizon’s sixth entry is such a triumph on almost every conceivable level that it’s difficult to imagine how Playground will be able to refine the series’ quality further than it already has. Barring wonky building systems that, thankfully, can be completely ignored, this isn’t just the quintessential Horizon game. Playground’s newest racer sets the benchmark for fun-first racing that’s almost obsessive in how accessible it makes itself to any type of player without anything getting lost in translation. Playground has spent 16 years refining Horizon’s formula into something remarkably frictionless, and Horizon 6 feels like the first time every piece fully clicks into place. Forza Horizon 6 doesn’t just bring the series to Japan. It finally brings Horizon home after a journey that started in Colorado, and the result is one of the best racing games of all time.

Nexus Hub - Sam Aberdeen - 10 / 10

Forza Horizon 6 blends spectacle with endlessly satisfying arcade racing, a vibrant Japan setting, and an unbridled sense of fun - it doesn't reinvent the Horizon formula, but Playground Games still knows how to build the ultimate festival racer.

MondoXbox - Davide Mapelli - 10 / 10.0

Forza Horizon 6 accomplishes an extraordinary feat: improving upon a formula that was already close to perfection. Playground Games elevates the experience with a stunning, massive map of Japan, refined mechanics, and endless content. It’s a majestic racing game and a true masterpiece that will keep players engaged for years to come. An absolute must-play for any racing fan.

GAMINGbible - Richard Lee Breslin - 10 / 10

Out of all the gorgeous places this series has taken us, Japan was always a frequent request across social media, and now that wish has come true. On top of that, the gameplay is divine, and the content that the game has now, and perhaps what’s to come, might just keep us entertained until the arrival of the next entry and beyond, wherever that may take us. We may only be in April, but I’d be surprised if anything pips Forza Horizon 6 as the best racing game of 2026.

Stevivor - Jam Walker - 9.5 / 10.0

Despite [a] handful of quibbles, I still find Forza Horizon 6 to be an utter joy. Drifting down lush mountainous woodlands to a stunningly radiant coastal fishing village while Rydeen plays is an absolutely singular experience.

Gamer Social Club - Mark Pell - 9.5 / 10.0

An exceptional, breathtaking world that players will be kept busy in for years, Forza Horizon 6 is one of 2026s best games and one of the best racing games ever created.

Game Informer - Brian Shea - 9.25 / 10

There’s always a moment early on in the Forza Horizon games when everything just clicks. Though that moment came a bit later for me in this sixth entry, by the time the game opened up, revealing its broad collection of offerings, I was absolutely hooked. Even for a series built on delivering approachable racing action that appeals to both newcomers and hardcore players, Forza Horizon 6 impresses at each turn, delivering one of the greatest racing games of this generation.

Console Creatures - Luke Williams - 9 / 10.0

Playground Games revs its engines on yet another Forza Horizon experience that is both safe and still committed to racing ahead at the pace of good game development in one of its most beautiful settings yet.

GamesRadar - Justin Towell - 4 / 5

If there was a bit of personality on show from the rival drivers, more action in the racing to make it less of a procession, a little more resistance in the trackside obstacles and Flatout 4-style deformation tech for the crashes, this would likely be the best racing game ever made. As it is, while it plays the racing too safe to be essential for racing game aficionados, even they will undoubtedly take much enjoyment from the sheer high quality of this game. It is amazing.

PC Gamer - Phil Savage - 84 / 100

Ultimately, Forza Horizon 6's only competitor is the previous Forza Horizon games—itself a scary thought given the regularity with which Microsoft removes them from sale. While I'd love for the series to flex its creativity a bit more, that desire doesn't dampen my deep appreciation for what Forza Horizon 6 does achieve.

What should I play while in labor?
r/gaming
Show full content

My mother was in labor with me for 36 hours. According to her, she spent the majority of that time playing Tetris. Now I am expecting babies and nearing the point where I could go into labor at any time. Figure it’s important to keep up the family tradition. Does anyone have any recommendations for me? I’m leaning towards Subnautica 2, Pokémon, or maybe Stardew Valley.

Guidlines
It has to be something on the Switch or Steam Deck.
No Multiplayer for obvious reasons.
Nothing that requires a huge amount of skill and focus like a souls-like.
No horror games, because I probably shouldn’t be playing something that raises my blood pressure too much.

My wife has recently gotten into gaming and I'm looking for games for her. They shouldn't be overly difficult and ideally with no spiders! So far she's really liked:

Planet Lana

A hat in time

Sackboy's big adventure

We're on PC. I don't think they necessarily have to be platformers, but she doesn't really like RPGs. So, yeah, cutesy causalish games for her. What do y'all have for me?

Stardew Valley dev says players might be able to cheat on spouses and destroy families one day

For years, fans of Stardew Valley have joked about breaking up Pelican Town’s couples and stealing away their favourite spouses. Now, creator Eric Barone has revealed that the idea is still sitting in the back of his mind, although it would come with consequences severe enough to turn the entire town against players.

According to Barone, the idea is still very much hypothetical, but not entirely off the table. The developer explained that while he is morally against infidelity in real life, the sandbox nature of Stardew Valley makes him interested in systems that allow players to make questionable decisions and then live with the consequences.

“I would be open to doing something like that,” Barone continued. “But I wouldn’t baby people about it. There would be very serious consequences.”

did you know in MGS V, your recruits learn new language?

the video doesn’t need to be watched unless you want evidence

but it’s easy to check yourself too…. just go check any story-related ‘generic’ character you can recruit like Silent Mastodon, Silent Basilisk, Panzer Buffalo… Gray Mongoose.

you could keep track of any DD recruit but it’s probably fastest to just go recheck one of those set characters so their name/portrait/languages are static (exact same for every player, every file).

and if you go back much later ?

they’ll have learned other languages

kinda a cool detail showing how DD soldiers grow together at Mother Base

but mechanically, also a big deal if you take your time and put in a LOT of hours after you’ve reached Africa but don’t finish all the missions there

as quickly you’ll have so many soldiers that speak all the languages

Alabaster Dawn, a "spiritual sequel" to CrossCode, released in early access a few days ago... has anyone tried it yet?
r/gaming
Show full content

CrossCode is one of those games that I always recommend to people when they want an indie RPG done right; it had a great mix of slick combat, exploration, and puzzles. That being said, the story was kinda only OK, and it does feel like it overstayed its welcome at some parts in the second half of the game. Still absolutely worth playing, IMO.

I remember reading forever ago that the studio that made it, Radical Fish, was working on a new game, and saw that just a few days ago they released an Early Access version of it. The new game is "Alabaster Dawn," and aims to be a "spiritual sequel" to CrossCode, where they take what worked and add to it, and leave out what they weren't happy with. Apparently the current early access version only goes to the middle of the second chapter, and it's kind of pricey for a work in progress ($25, although there's a sale for 15% off on Steam at the moment), although there is a demo for free. But I was surprised I hadn't seen it mentioned here; or maybe I missed it?

Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone has tried out the demo or bought the game in early access and has any feedback, or comparisons between it and CrossCode. Thinking of buying it after work today but I'd like other peoples' first impressions too.

Games that make you feel like The Punisher?
r/gaming

AKA games where you're a vigilante type character absolutely gunning through enemies that absolutely deserve it?

I just saw the Punisher special, and at points it really felt like a video game. Got me itching to play something like it.

  • The Punisher (2005) fits the bill but is quite graphically dated and annoying to get running on PC.
  • Watch_Dogs (the first one) ticks that "vigilante justice" box nicely, but it doesn't hold much replay value in my opinion and again is from like 12 years ago.
  • Mafia 3 was an outstanding revenge game, fun gun-play, I thoroughly enjoyed it, but that was 10 years ago so again, getting a bit dated.

Anyone recommend any stand-out newer titles that could fit the bill?

How come billion dollars company like Bungie fail so hard at researching at what gamers want ?
r/gaming
Show full content

Topic. It's easy to assume Bungie is probably at the top of gaming companies and it's backed by sony, another top level gaming division. Now when you have million dollars at your disposal and probably the best talent of world. Combine that with years of gamers data and research, how come these company fuble so hard. How they misread the room so badly. At the same time various indies and AA developers are outshining with there games. Bungie had destiny franchise which was at verge of exploring into various media fronts including rumore tv and movies. The franchise itself is problematic to say least BUT a big money maker. Yet they abandoned it to pursue some very niche game with a heavy budget. Its clear cut that if they would have made a sequel to destiny 2 it would have been MUCH LARGER hit. So if profit is all what these companies about , why they make decisions which are opposite. Concord was another glaring example. How much profit do these companies expect out of any games. Is there any metric to it. Because I am so lost. Companies expect billion dollars profit out of 100 million dollars investment if anything less they consider it as failure. Now coming to US developers as whole i don't remember much of success lately. Whereas the Asian counterpart are getting both critical and financial success. Are people really not that talented at these places or something else happens which general public isn't much aware of.

Stranger of Paradise gets slept on HARD.

Yes, the story is campy, chessy and ridiculous, but goddamn did the developers make up for it in the gameplay. I always thought the idea of making a soulslike Final Fantasy game could turn great and this is it.

The combat is very fast and you constantly have to be absorbing attacks to build your MP in order to use your abilities. You can equip 2 Jobs on your character and instantly swap between them during battle, with multiple weapons, abilities, equipable combos and even unique abilities provided by certain weapons or stolen from enemies during the fight. Certain weapons can execute different attack animations depending on the direction you're pressing. Its really deep and extremely replayable.

If you're not a soulslike fan, don't worry... it has difficulty options. You can play completely solo on the highest difficulty or add up to two CPU characters and/or choose a lower difficulty.

It reviewed well back when it was released and now that I played it, I'm surprised it's not brought up too much compared to even indies in this genre. Which makes me think it's never getting a sequel. I was thouroughly surprised by this game.

Marvel Tokon doesn't actually have a campaign. Instead it has comic book style scenes with no gameplay or matches

4Gamer:
Arc System Works' fighting games seem to have substantial story modes. What about Marvel Fighting Spirit?

Yamanaka:
It's difficult to directly compare the volume of content to the story modes in other titles because the format is different, but in Marvel Fighting Spirit, you can enjoy a story using a motion comics style in a game mode called "Episode Mode." We had a manga artist draw the base manga, and then we added movement to each panel to advance the story, which is a fairly time-consuming way to present it. We have prepared five teams, and it has enough content to provide nearly 10 hours of gameplay in total.

Yamanaka:
From the beginning of the project, we decided that a story mode was absolutely necessary for casual players, and the only thing left to discuss was what form it should take. Marvel is all about comics, so we thought about how to make it interactively enjoyable, and that's how the idea of making comics move came about. By adding sound and movement to motion comics, we can also make use of the PS5's vibration function.

4Gamer:
In episode mode, will there be any matches where the player controls the game in between?

Yamanaka:
No. Basically, once you start episode mode, the story will progress even if you leave it alone. You can fast-forward by pressing a button, or pause and enjoy the illustrations at your leisure, but it's designed to be enjoyed in the same way as reading a comic book.

As an aside, recording the voices for episode mode was a challenge. In previous Arc System Works titles, we usually recorded about three languages, but this time we needed to record ten languages.

However, I think being able to enjoy a fighting game in one's native language is a wonderful experience, so I would like to do my best to support it, with the help of SIE regarding localization.

It's really disappointing how often fighting games skimp out on single player content and you would think with sony's backing maybe this would be different. Instead it has even less actual content than all the fighting games that just make you fight evil clones of characters.

California bill pushes for refunds, offline versions of video games Bill Text: CA AB1921

California's Assembly Bill 1921 seeks to protect gamers by requiring companies to provide offline versions or refunds for games reliant on online servers.

California is looking to protect the gamers who purchased these now-defunct games by requiring companies to either provide an offline version of the game or issue refunds.

Under Assembly Bill 1921, companies would also need to provide a two-month warning before taking down servers.

“The bottom line is that when a user is paying $40, $70, $100 or more for a license, they shouldn't then the next day turn around and see that thing just all of a sudden disappear from their screen,” said Assemblymember Chris Ward.

What are the studios of the 2020s that we will remember fondly in the 2030s?
r/gaming
Show full content

For me, Bethesda, 2k and Bioware really dominated the 2010s with Fallout, mass effect, dragon age, Skyrim, borderlands, etc. But each of these studios has really struggled to release a game to universal acclaim. Just about everything has been met with a middling response, with most impressions being that "its alright" like Starfield, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Borderlands 3 & 4, and others.

It got me thinking, what studios are having their golden age right now? Nintendo had a sling a heavy hitters, but when I zoom out a bit, I guess maybe the whole question is moot. We've had a lot of studios with just 1 or 2 projects that really blew our minds like Santa Monica with God of War, Larian with Baldur's Gate 3, Elden Ring from Fromsoft and Cyberpunk 2077 from CDProjeckt Red. Each of these studios certainly have a history of making great games in their own right, but have only had one major release so far this decade.

Idk. Interested to know what everyone thinks.

I guess now that I think about it, FromSoft deserves to be in the 2010s too. They really killed it by birthing an entire genre. If you get a whole archetype named after your series you deserve a plaque or something. And on that note, they're kinda the only holdover I can think of from the 2010s right now.

Edit: deleted FNV from the lineup bc Bioware made that one

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle seems like another impressive Switch 2 port

By looking at this video and Reading reviews it seems like Indiana Jones for Switch 2 is another really good port! I think its very cool to have this games on the system, both for portable play and for people that have the Switch 2 as their main system.

I played this game at launch on the Series S, its excellent, if you havent played, you should. I really hope they are making a sequel but i suppose they are working on Wolfenstein 3.

Do gaming projectors really have to cost this much?
r/gaming
Show full content

I’ve been looking into projectors lately because I really want to play Mario Kart on a massive 120-inch screen in my living room. I really want to set this up for game nights with friends. Local multiplayer on a wall-sized screen just feels like something you don’t really get from a regular TV.

But when I looked for projectors that can handle gaming, are the prices really this high?

The Epson LS12000 has an MSRP of $5,999, supports 4K up to 120Hz, and Epson claims input lag below 20ms. The Sony VPL-XW5000ES is also around $5,999, with Sony listing input lag under 21ms at 4K/60 and under 13ms at 2K/120. Even models like the Hisense C2 Ultra still come in around $2,999. I also came across the JMGO N3 Ultimate, which seems to support low-latency gaming modes, cheaper than some of the other high-end models, but I haven’t seen much feedback yet from actual gaming experience.

I guess I’m really just trying to figure out how much you actually need to spend to get a projector that’s really good for gaming. For games like Mario Kart or Super Smash Bros, what kind of input lag is still totally fine?

According to Sega's quarterly report they have cancelled their "super game" and will also focus less on F2P titles

This is the project that seemed to be a multi year ongoing project that was rumored to cost upwards of $800m (probably a lifetime estimate not launch).

edit: In case anyone asks all the revival games like crazy taxi and JSR are still alive and listed as TBD on the release slate.

Mixtape is commissioned art and should’ve been marketed as such.
r/gaming
Show full content

Not here to hate on or defend the new game Mixtape, I just wanna give some context I don’t see enough people discussing on this site and maybe shed some light on why it’s divisive.

The financial backer of Mixtape is Megan Ellison, daughter of Oracle CEO and founder Larry Ellison. She’s been known to bankroll movies even if the director is known for being commercially unsuccessful. Megan’s behind movies like Her, True Grit, Nimona, and Phantom Thread and she’s built a reputation in Hollywood for being the equivalent of a Renaissance patron.

Mixtape makes more sense from this angle. It’s the A24 or Letterboxd crowd dabbling in what is essentially the visual novel format. Look at a trailer for a prestige indie movie and you’ll notice Mixtape’s marketing is much more similar to a Paul Thomas Anderson flick than a more conventional game. I suspect this is why there’s such a huge game between your IGN types and what your average Joe on this site is saying.

What's a thing in gaming that you swing between loving and absolutely despising?
r/gaming
Show full content

You can be as broad or as specific as you like, for me it's something general af

It’s the very concept of grinding, as in doing same-ish activities hundreds to thousands of times over until you’re incrementally rewarded for it some way and so on in a loop that just lengthens the time of those activities, while giving you the reward at longer and longer increments.

If you’re any sort of mmo or arpg (PoE, Last Epoch, Diablo…) fan or even a cozy farming enjoyer (yes you, Stardew), I can only hope you already know what I’m aiming at here… when I say swinging between enjoying it (just wanting it to continue forever) and hating every second of it because you know the odds of getting that sweet piece of loot you want are so slim, so RNG contingent, that it’s only a matter of sinking time. And literally nothing else.

I could yap on about how in some games grinding is less painful because ways you can influence RNG drop rates, like the Circle of Fortune in Last Epoch, or running tormented bosses and helltides in Diablo 4. But I’m not talking technicalities here because ultimately it doesn’t matter if the grind for something will take me 2 hours or 6 hours, it depends on how fun and mentally soothing it will be to lose those hours for a piece of digital loot.

Basically, before I get down into it I don’t know myself if I’m in for a good time or for a slog that gets boring about ten minutes in. Sometimes the mood keeps me for months on end, oftentimes it’s just for that one long gaming night-sesh…

I think this is the biggest general hate-love divide for me as a gamer right now, just based on the brute time the game wants me to spend repeating similar things over and over. What would be your most intense love-hate relationship of this sort, if ye have one?

What game had a world that was way more interesting than you expected?
r/gaming
Show full content

There are some games I go into expecting the gameplay to be the main draw, but then I end up getting way more invested in the world itself than I thought I would. Sometimes it’s the atmosphere, the lore, the setting, or just the feeling that the world has a lot more personality than it first seemed like it would.

For me one of the biggest examples was Prey (2017). I expected to mainly enjoy it for the gameplay, but the setting and overall feel of Talos I ended up being a huge part of why I liked it so much.

What game was like that for you?

Engineer creates video game of Alaska’s Tracy Arm landslide, which generated a megatsunami

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - An engineering professor outside of Alaska has created a simulation and video game that can help people understand the scale of August 2025’s Tracy Arm landslide and tsunami in Southeast Alaska in real-time.

The massive landslide fell from the fjord wall in Tracy Arm in the early morning hours of August 10, 2025. It created an approximately 328-foot tsunami wave that pushed water about 1,578 feet up the fjord wall, according to a new research article.

“It’s really hard to convey the scale of these events. But maybe if we could create digitally, so that you can imagine you there during the event, you’ll have some idea of the tremendous scale of the landslide,” Lynett said.

Part of that simulation allows the person playing the video game to try to outride the tsunami on a jet ski.

The game is not yet available to the public, but he is working on making it available on Steam for free, he said.

Just finished Mixtape. I did not care for it, but I also understand why some people love it.
r/gaming
Show full content

As a TV show, I think Mixtape is pretty good. However, Mixtape is not a TV show, it is an interactive video game. Except, it's also not a game, because to say Mixtape has gameplay would be like saying a TV show is like a video game because you can raise and lower the volume. Mixtape largely achieves the title of video game through technicality.

I actually have nothing against story-driven games with limited gameplay. I enjoyed Life is Strange when it came out, and the recently released Dispatch was also very fun. Edith Finch, That Dragon Cancer, Before Your Eyes, Gone Home, all of these are experiences that benefit a lot from being interactive, but I just don't it see with Mixtape.

The gameplay changes depending on the moment, but half the time it's either skateboarding somewhere, or walking very slowly. Both these means of locomotion feel really sluggish and bad to control. The non-standard gameplay is sometimes novel or charming but always very slow. As far as presentation goes the game looks nice and sounds nice at least.

I just don't think this game needed to be a game at all. It gains very little from being an interactive piece of media, beyond the ability to linger in the environments a bit longer, which honestly might be enough for it to be worth it to some people.

If I had to give Mixtape a score I'd probably settle on a 6/10, but that's because I'm compromising between reviewing it as a video game and reviewing it as a TV show. For actual gameplay I'd give it a 3/10. But as an entertaining piece of media I'd give it maybe a 7/10 since I enjoyed most of it in a guilty pleasure sort of way.
